Overview

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an approach to teaching and learning that gives all students an equal opportunity to succeed. It offers flexibility in the ways students access instruction and demonstrate their learning. UDL enables instructors to utilize different ways to keep students motivated.  

Objectives

  • Identify the principles of UDL and recognize barriers to learning.
  • Define who is the “Expert Learner” and the “Expert Educator”.
  • Recognize how to apply UDL principles when designing formative and summative assessments.
  • Identify ways to incorporate technology into instruction to facilitate learning.
  • Compare a traditional lesson plan to one that follows the UDL principles.
  • Acquire a list of helpful resources for instructional planning.

Dr. Gihan Mohamad​

  • Dr. Mohamad is a professor at William Paterson University, in New Jersey, USA.
  • Has a doctorate in educational technology from New Jersey City University, NJ and a master’s degree in information science from Rutgers University, NJ.
  • Library practitioner and educator.
  • Teaches technology, library management, instructional design, and cataloging to preservice librarians.
  • Dr. Mohamad’s research interests include collaborative instruction, technology integration, and diversity and inclusion in the literature.
