Libraries have changed almost beyond recognition over the past two decades as a result of advances in technology and the Web. However, as the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes a bigger part of everyday life, it is possible to imagine what public libraries will look like within the next few years.
The IoT is becoming widespread in academia, as well as in industry. The term refers to smart objects communicating with each other autonomously by means of built-in unique identifiers and sensors. This connectivity enables actionable insights and ultimately makes the environment around us smarter.
In this context, Naseej Academy, in collaboration with the Special Libraries Association – Arabian Gulf Chapter (SLA/AGC), is pleased to offer a workshop entitled “The Internet of Things (IoT) for Libraries”.
To be held March 3–4, 2019, at Dusit Thani Hotel, Abu Dhabi, UAE, the workshop will precede SLA/AGC’s 25th Annual Conference & Exhibition.
Workshop participants will gain a general understanding of the various technologies that make up the Internet of Things, ideas for how these technologies can be used in libraries, and an overview of the current state and role of voice computing in IoT.
Who should attend?
The workshop is suitable for senior-level managers and heads of libraries (including deans, directors, chief librarians and deputies), and researchers in the library information science field.
