 Naseej Academy Launches Two Workshops in Collaboration with Special Libraries Association – Arabian Gulf Chapter

Naseej Academy launched two professional workshops, in collaboration with the Special Libraries Association – Arabian Gulf Chapter (SLA–AGC), organized as part of the 24th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the SLA–AGC, held on March 4–5, 2018, at the Grand Millennium Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.


The first workshop, entitled "Big Data for Strategic Planning and Decision Making in Academic Libraries", was moderated by Mr. Scott M. Leeb, senior consultant with Iknow, a leading international consulting firm specializing in knowledge management.

The workshop targeted senior-level managers and heads of academic libraries (including directors, chief librarians and deputies) and teams in charge of strategic planning. Participants explored how to engage with and use big data in their day-to-day work more efficiently and effectively, as well as how to invest big data in strategic planning and decision making at the level of academic library management.

The second workshop, entitled "Effective Management of Big Data and Research Data within Academic Libraries", was moderated by Mr. Marshall Breeding, a consultant, writer and keynote speaker at many conferences. Mr. Breeding has authored many publications in the field of big data management and information systems.

 

The workshop targeted middle-level staff of academic libraries (including librarians, system librarians, and staff responsible for technical and technological tasks) who are familiar with big data and research data terms and concepts.

In his opening remarks, Naseej Academy supervisor; Prof. Dr. Abdallah Metwally welcomed the attendees and expressed his pleasure at the presence of the audience. He stressed that Naseej Academy's aim with the workshops was to inform targeted attendees about the latest developments in the field of big data. He closed his speech by expressing his wish that the workshops will enable participants to achieve their goals of enhancing the leadership and operational performance in the academic libraries using Big data.
