Naseej Academy has successfully concluded its webinar on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, entitled: The “Smart” in Smarter Libraries, moderated by Professor Clara M. Chu, Director and Mortenson Distinguished Professor at the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and President-Elect, 2018–2019 of Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T).
Professor Chu presented the meaning of smarter library, and how to develop it using an inclusive framework that is applicable to different types of libraries, with varied levels of resources and located anywhere in the world.
The webinar engaged the notion of a “smarter” library that builds on aspects of a smart library, such as being flexible, efficient, resource-friendly, sustainable and socially inclusive, but which isn’t necessarily entirely reliant on new technologies. Smart libraries are being contemplated in the development of smart cities. Here, smarter libraries will be considered as anchors of their communities.
The webinar attracted significant participation by librarians and information specialists from various libraries and information centers across the Arab world.
The webinar featured considerable engagement, and interaction between participants and the moderator who answered their various questions and queries with case studies.
From his part, Professor Dr. Abdallah H. Metwally - Naseej Academy General Supervisor - extended his thanks to participants and invited them to register for future webinars and other Naseej Academy events. He also expressed his appreciation to Dr. Clara for her effort, and stressing the Academy's interest to cooperate with her in the future events.
