 Winners Announced of Naseej Academy and SLA–AGC Grant to Attend the 2019 Mortenson Center Associates Program

​​During the closing ceremony of the 25th SLA–AGC Annual Conference & Exhibition, held March 5–7, 2019 at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Abu Dhabi, UAE, the winners of the Naseej Academy and SLA–AGC grant to attend this year’s Mortenson Center Associates Program were announced. The winners are:

  • Ms. Mona Mansour Al Buhamaid, National Book Library Specialist, Isa Cultural Center​​​, Kingdom of Bahrain
  • Ms. Seham Kazem Abdul Rahman Al-Ostaz, Director of Technical Affairs and Research, Ministry of Education, Kuwait Library Department.

The grant, awarded jointly by Naseej Academy and the Arabian Gulf Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (SLA–AGC), will enable the two winners to participate in the Mortenson Center Associates Program in the United States. Titled “Smarter, Strategic and Sustainable Libraries: A Professional Development Program for Library Leaders and Innovators”, the program will be held from May 22 to June 18, 2019 in Champaign, Illinois.
The program provides winners with a unique opportunity to explore current issues and trends in the library field, and to engage with librarians implementing cutting-edge programs and services. The grant will also enable the winners to learn about novel and inventive practices and services in areas such as:
  • Leadership, Communication and Managing Change
  • Smarter Strategies
  • Digital and Print Collections and Repositories
  • Information Technology
  • Marketing and Advocacy
  • International Professional Networking
  • Designing for Change and Community Engagement.

Also announced during the closing ceremony were the winners of the best papers in Arabic and English presented during the conference.

Mr. Abdulla Al Turaifi, Executive Vice President of Naseej, and Prof. Dr. Abdullah Metwally, Supervisor of Naseej Academy, congratulated the winners. They also expressed their deep appreciation of, and gratitude to, the SLA–AGC for their continued cooperation.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr. Turaifi stressed Naseej’s – and Naseej Academy’s – commitment to developing outstanding young leaders who work in libraries and academic institutions in the Arab world, and to helping them develop their capabilities to enable them to keep pace with modern requirements in the library and information environment.
