Muscat, Oman, March 2018, During the closing ceremony of the 24th SLA–AGC Annual Conference & Exhibition, held between March 4–5, 2018, at the Grand Millennium Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, the winners of the Naseej Academy and SLA-AGC grant to attend this year’s Mortenson Center Associates Program were announced. The winners are:
- Mohannad Salameh AlKhalialeh, Jordan, Manager of Studies and Information Department at the University of Jordan Library
- Nehad Ali Said AL Hadi, Sultanate of Oman, Librarian at Main Library, Sultan Qaboos University
The grant, awarded jointly by Naseej Academy and the Arabian Gulf Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (SLA–AGC), will enable the two winners to participate in the Mortenson Center Associates Program in the United States in 2018. Titled “Imagine, Design, Engage, Act: A Professional Development Program for Library Leaders and Innovators”, the program will be held from May 23 to June 19 in Champaign, Illinois.
The program provides participants, with an excellent opportunity to explore current issues and trends in the library world, as well as to engage and interact with library experts from several countries who are implementing advanced programs and innovative services. The grant will also enable the recipients to attend seminars and workshops that provide an overview of current trends in the field; to visit a variety of libraries, including academic, public and school libraries; and to build a dynamic network of international colleagues during and after the program.
At the SLA–AGC Award Dinner, Naseej, a co-contributing sponsor of the event, also announced the winners of the Academy Award for the best papers in Arabic and English presented during the conference. In addition, the names were announced of those distinguished students of library science at Gulf universities who have been awarded Naseej Academy scholarships and selected to attend the SLA–AGC Annual Conference & Exhibition.
Mr. Abdulla Al Turaifi, Executive Vice President of Naseej, and Prof. Dr. Abdullah Metwally, Supervisor of Naseej Academy, congratulated the winners. They also expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Nabhan Harrasi, President-elect of the Special Libraries Association, and Mr. Mohamed Mubarak, Association Board Member, and presented them with honorary shields in recognition of their outstanding efforts.
Mr. Al-Turaifi also reiterated Naseej Academy’s commitment to support future leaders working in libraries and academic institutions in the Arab world, and helping them to develop their talents and creativity.
