Naseej Academy launches workshop entitled "Making the Leap to Academic Library Leadership"

Dubai, UAE, November 28–29, 2018
The greatest leaders are those who are able to maximize new opportunities and make a qualitative leap into the future. Naseej Academy is presenting a workshop entitled "Making the Leap to Academic Library Leadership" on November 28–29, 2018, at Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The workshop, designed for leaders of academic libraries (deans, directors, chief librarians, etc.), will focus on self-awareness, professional purpose, and the development of high-performing teams. Participants will explore four fundamental leadership questions:
1. Who are you?
2. Where are you going?
3. Who is following your lead?
4. What value are you creating for the performance of your team?

The workshop examines two key components of successful leadership in academic libraries – managing people and directing strategy. It focuses on the idea that "to lead, you must make others follow you". Participants will learn lessons in leadership by sharing their own, and analyzing others’, experiences.

The self-awareness component of the workshop requires participants to examine their own direction, and to understand that, without a strong sense of direction, they cannot lead others. Emphasis is placed on the idea that a leader must be able to inspire others to be followers. For instance, the library director must be able to pull together a library team, who must be inspired in some way to follow the leader’s direction.

The next essential element for a good leader is the ability to develop others – that is, to draw out the best from them. The workshop therefore addresses the need for leaders to coach and develop their colleagues. Participants will have ample opportunity to practice using appropriate, inspirational, and powerful tools and approaches that will enable them to do this easily and effectively.

Workshop Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
    • know their top three personal and professional strengths as a leader, and how to use them to best effect in their leadership
    • know their three most significant leadership blind spots, and have strategies in place to develop their performance in those areas
    • have a clear idea of their top three “must win” professional strategic priorities with respect to their academic library
    • have a clear roadmap for building a high-performing team within their  academic library.
