 Naseej Academy Concludes its Webinar on: “Emerging Technologies and Their Impact on Libraries: Concept, Main Challenges and Difficulties”

​In collaboration with Deanship of Library Affairs at King Abdulaziz University, Naseej Academy has organized and on Webinar entitled: ”Emerging Technologies and Their Impact on Libraries: Concept, Main Challenges and Difficulties”, on Monday Muharram 12, 1442 A.H. correspondent to August 31, 2020, from 08:80 AM to 10:30 AM Makkah time(GMT+3). 

The Webinar was moderated by the Vice-dean of Library Affairs, professor of telecommunication engineering at KAU Dr. Ghassan Rashed Alnwaimi, pointing out that emerging technologies offer new opportunities where some of these technologies could very shortly fall under ‘Disruptive Technologies”. As well, they offer alternative solutions for several issues and challenges facing libraries of different categories. This, in turn, would pose a radical shift in both economy and industry. 

The Webinar deeply addressed various topics related to emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data. The moderator’s seamless elaboration and passion to the Webinar topic were highly appreciated by the audience who exceeded the maximum limit for Zoom Meeting Platform; requiring the Academy to launch a live-stream via its Facebook page to enable all audience to join the Webinar

During the Webinar, Dr. Alnwaimi gave a presentation on the latest digital technologies; while explaining some of their key concepts and application within the digital transformation in libraries, as well as highlighting the major challenges and difficulties along with impact on library systems. He also discussed the opportunities that could contribute to securing a new competitive advantage to libraries to offer better services to patrons. In his in-depth elaboration, Dr. Alnwaimi discussed the Game Theory and its connection with Machine Learning, while taking into account redefining libraries strategies and their data in rather scientific and engineering ways to be more receptive to technologies, overcome internal reservations and adoption difficulties experienced by different libraries. Then Dr. Alnwaimi concluded his presentation summarizing the key digital transformation initiatives made by the Deanship of Library Affairs at the King Abdulaziz University as actual models for implement the latest technologies cited in the Webinar.

At the end of the Webinar Naseej Academy general supervisor, Prof. Dr. Abdallah Metwally extended his deep thanks to Dr. Alnwaimi for the valuable information he shared, with sincere appreciation of the fruitful collaboration between Naseej Academy and the Deanship of Library Affairs at King Abdulaziz University. After that, Dr. Alnwaimi answered the queries of the audience; stressing that all attendance certificates would be emailed to all participants.

About Dr. Ghassan Rashed Alnwaimi

​​Dr. Ghassan Alnwaimi is Vice-dean of Library Affairs and assistant professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at King Abdulaziz University.  Dr. Alnwaimi is also the Vice-President of the IEEE’s Technology and Engineering Management Society TEMS. He is specialized in Artificial Intelligence and its applications in Telecommunications, a researcher in teaching and learning technologies, a founder of several initiatives and digital platforms, a member of different associations and committees, author of published papers articles and a peer-reviewer at a number of academic journals.
