Naseej Academy Concludes its Webinar on “The Role of University Libraries in Developing Self-Evaluation Reports: An Analytical Vision”

Universities are required to obtain academic accreditation, whatever their size or specialty. In every case, the university library plays a vital role in documenting that the institution meets the requirements to obtain such accreditation, be it institutional or on program level. In this regard, a self-evaluation report – sometimes known as a self-study report – is the first step in the process of objectively tracking, assessing and evaluating the eligibility of the university for accreditation based on the functionality of its departments and units, and especially of its library system.

In this context, and in line with the strategic partnership between King Abdulaziz University (KAU) – represented by the Deanship of Library Affairs – and Naseej Academy, the Deanship hosted a webinar, “The Role of University Libraries in Developing Self-Evaluation Reports:  An Analytical Vision” on Wednesday, 20 Ramadan 1441 A.H.  (13 May 2020). The webinar was presented by Naseej Academy’s general supervisor, Professor of Library and Information Science and Naseej Knowledge Solutions Consultant Prof. Dr. Abdallah Metwally, and was moderated by KAU’s Vice-Dean of Library Affairs and Professor of Telecommunication Engineering, Dr. Ghassan Rashed Alnwaimi.

The webinar targeted the Deanship staff, faculty, library and information science professionals, and stakeholders across the Arab world. Participants were updated on the nature of self-evaluation and on its role in academic accreditation processes, and learned how to prepare and draft a self-evaluation report for a university library.

During the webinar, Dr. Metwally addressed the following training themes:
  • Self-assessment/self-study: Introduction: Concept and definition.
  • Self-assessment report/self-study report: Objective and structure.
  • Preparation and availability of self-assessment report/self-study report.
  • Then what...?!

More than nine thousand people have register for the webinar and there was interactive engagement from those who attended, through questions and comments. Participants were encouraged to suggest alternative ways of making available the university library self-assessment report.
