 The 2017 Naseej Academy Library and Information Pioneers Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 2017 Naseej Academy Library and Information Pioneers Award were announced at the opening ceremony of the 28th Annual Conference of the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information (AFLI). The conference was held November 27–29, 2017, at the Grand Nile Tower Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.

Naseej Academy, the sponsor of the award, hopes that it will assist the Arab library and information sector to achieve a competitive advantage by highlighting efforts and initiatives that have the potential to inspire others and that enhance the position of libraries in their community. ​


The winners 
  • Professor Hesham Azmi, PhD
Professor Hesham Azmi is currently Head of the Department of Library, Archives and Information Technology at Cairo University. Professor Azmi received his PhD in Information Science from Cairo University, subsequent to conducting research at the University of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee, USA. He is the author of several books, peer-reviewed journal articles, and papers published in regional and international conference proceedings. Various institutions have recognized him for his remarkable research endeavors. In 2010, he was the recipient of the Best Research Award in Social Sciences and Humanities at the International Research Forum held in Doha. Professor Azmi assumed several leading academic positions, including the Deanship of the College of Media Studies at the American University in the Emirates. He also served two terms as Vice President of the Arab Federation of Library and Information (AFLI) from 2008 to 2013. 

  • Professor Mustafa Amin Hossam El Din, PhD
Professor Mustafa Amin Hossam El Din is currently Professor of Libraries Science in the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University. He is one of the most recognized authorities in the field of library and information science in Egypt and the Arab world. His many works and contributions have influenced Arab libraries, especially in the fields of machine-readable cataloging (MARC), national bibliography, retrieval information systems, authority control, analysis and design of libraries and information systems, assessment of library performance, and digital library systems.

Held annually, this prestigious award is granted to AFLI members – severally or jointly – in recognition of their pioneering efforts and dedication to the library and information industry, and their contributions to the advancement of Arabic libraries and library science in the Arab world. Based on Naseej Academy’s vision to support outstanding individuals, the Library and Information Pioneers Award, held in partnership with AFLI, aims to enhance library and information studies, promote research development, and motivate creativity.
